1. @Home Now Provisioning for Some MSOs
AT&T Broadband, MediaCom, and Comcast have individually announced that @Home has resumed provisioning of its new cable modem subscribers, as part of the terms of newly established agreements between @Home and these MSOs. Detailed terms of the new arrangements were not disclosed and @Home has not stated if further deals are expected across its entire affiliate base.

2. AOL & EarthLink Introduced in More AOL/TW Markets
AOL and EarthLink have introduced cable modem services over AOL/TW systems in Albany, New York (300,000 HHP); Charleston, Columbia, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (525,000 HHP); and Dayton, Hamilton, Lima, Middletown, Springfield, and Toledo, Ohio (420,000 HHP).

3. Court Orders Southwestern Bell to Cease Ad Campaign
A federal judge in St. Louis has ordered Southwestern Bell to pull its ads that claim that cable modem connections are slow during peak hours. The ad, which sounds funny, depicts a family scheduling Internet use after 10:00 p.m.
Charter sued Southwestern Bell in August after the ads began airing in July.

4. Jupiter Releases Two Broadband Market Studies
Jupiter Media Metrix has released two broadband market studies including "U.S. Broadband Household Projections: Time Business Initiatives to Reach Growing Broadband Audience" and "Jupiter Metrix: Broadband 2Q 2001." As part of its findings, the firm reports that 41% of online households in the U.S. will subscribe to a broadband service by 2006 increasing from 5.2 million subs in 2000 to 35.1 million subs.
The study also reveals broadband usage data including the finding that broadband subs are more likely to download music, watch videos, conduct online personal banking, and perform stock-related activities than dial-up users.

5. Com21 Introduces New ATM-Based Cable Modem
Com21 has introduced the ComPORT 1080, an ATM-based cable modem that can operate in an upstream frequency range of 5 to 65 MHz. The new modem, which supports USB connectivity, can be remotely configured with the Com21 network management and provisioning system to set tariffs on bandwidth usage. Pricing for the product is said to be comparable to standards-based modems.
In a separate announcement, Com21 has reported sales of 193,000 cable modems in Q'3 and shipment of 96 headends for the quarter.

6. Axelero to Deploy Cisco's CMTS
Cisco has announced that it will supply Axelero with its uBR7246VXR and uBR7223 in 13 nodes, and uBR900 cable access routers for a cable modem service to be offered to more than 40,000 homes in Budapest.

7. Acterna Introduces Loop Verification Meter
Acterna has introduced its Sympulse Loop Verification Meter, a handheld field meter that enables techs to certify the upstream for high-speed data services. The meter is part of the company's suite of upstream monitoring solution, which includes the PathTrak Return Path Monitoring and Phasor Return Path Management systems.

8. Core Introduces Provisioning & Mgmt for Smaller Systems
Core Networks has introduced CoreOS Lite, a version of its CoreOS Broadband Provisioning and Management System designed for small to mid-size cable networks. The software provides activation, support and network management tools.

9. Best Buy to Market Comcast's @Home Service
Comcast has announced that more than 60 Best Buy stores will market the MSO's @Home service via interactive kiosks that will preview the service, check availability, and sign up customers.
Customers who sign up through Best Buy before November 15 will receive free service through the end of the year.
The agreement between Best Buy and Comcast also includes marketing of the provider's digital cable services.

10. Rogers Adds 43,900 @Home Subs in Q'3
Rogers has reported the addition of 43,900 @Home subscribers in the third quarter. The service is available to 84% of the provider's homes passed.

11. Shaw Adds 98,000 @Home Subs in Q'3
Shaw has reported ending the third quarter with 596,045 @Home subs and scheduled installs, adding 98,000 during the quarter. The MSO's service passed 2,528,414 homes, giving it a penetration rate of 23.6%. An additional 30,000 consumers subscribed in September. 250,000 new additions are projected for the upcoming fiscal year.
