NetCom to Deploy ADC Equipment in Scandinavia
ADC has installed its Homeworx telephony system in Nanjing, China at
Nanjing CATV. The deployment follows a six-month trial of the system.
Nanjing CATV serves 400,000 video subscribers, covering 70% of the city.
Separately, ADC announced that it has successfully completed an initial
phase of testing of Homeworx's V5.2 switch interface with China's Ministry
of Posts and Telecommunications. The V5.2 interface is expected to be
accepted as an international standard for connectivity between network
equipment and network switches.

Bell Atlantic Accused of Inhibiting Competition
The Maryland Cable Television Association [MCTA] has accused Bell Atlantic
[BA] of inhibiting competition in Maryland by refusing to allow cable
operators to overlash fiber on existing cable carried by Bell Atlantic
poles. Further, BA is also encouraging Potomac Electric Power to do the
same. The telco is also penalizing operators for previous overlashing at
$50 per pole. Though some overlashing has been allowed through a series of
pole attachment agreements, most of the networks have been blocked from the
practice since last spring.
The pole attachment agreements require that operators provide BA with fiber
route maps.
Blocking is primarily effecting Comcast and Marcus.
The MCTA has filed a complaint with the FCC. The complaint asks the
government agency to stop the overlashing blockage and to charge BA with an
antitrust violation. It further suggests that the FCC impose penalties.
According to representatives of Texas Utilities Electric Company, the FCC
has previously ruled in favor of pole owners in similar pole attachment
disputes.
