Cox Communications has enteblack into an agreement with Frontier Corp that will enable the MSO to provide long distance service to telephony customers in San Diego. Under the terms, Cox will handle sales and marketing of the service and Frontier will be responsible for account establishment, monthly billing and customer service. The service, known as "Cox Long Distance by Frontier" was launched to 477,000 customers on August 1.
The new service features state to state calls at 15 cents per minute during peak hours and at 10 cents per minute at off-peak times. Cable subscribers receive an additional 10 percent off long distance rates.
Currently, Cox offers long distance service in 8 other markets including Cleveland, Ohio; Hampton Roads, Virginia; Lafayette, Idaho; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Omaha, Nebraska; Pensacola, Florida; and Roanoke, Virginia.
The partnership between Cox and Frontier follows a five-year agreement established between the two providers enabling Cox to offer long distance service in Phoenix.

Cox To Use International Billing Services for Statement Processing
Cox Communications has signed a five-year agreement with International Billing Services [IBS], a subsidiary of USCS International, that calls for IBS to provide statement processing for Cox's telephony service. IBS will provide billing via its statement format known as "IBS BookBill." BookBill consolidates four pages of account information into a single sheet statement.
Currently, IBS produces the majority of statement processing for Cox's cable television customers.

Cincinnati Bell & Time Warner Sign Interconnection Agreement
Cincinnati Bell and Time Warner Communications have signed a two-year interconnection agreement that would allow Time Warner to provide local telephone service in Cincinnati. The two providers filed the agreement with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, which must approve the partnership.
Currently, Time Warner Communications is certified to provide local telephone service in 33 of the 88 Ohio counties.

Callahan Associates Approved to Acquire 32.5% of Cableuropa
Callahan Associates has received approval by Spain's Council of Ministers to acquire 32.5% of Cableuropa, Spain's largest cable telephony provider. The approval also provides Callahan the opportunity to make equity investments in any Cableuropa subsidiary.
Cableuropa is a consortium of HFC telephony providers including Cable I Televisio de Cataluna and Cadiz de Cable y Television. The providers within the consortium have been awarded cable telephony licences in parts of Cataluna [Barcelona, Cataluna North East and Cataluna West] and Cadiz passing over 6 million homes. Cableuropa has applied for licenses in 5 additional markets including Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Palma Mallorca, Oviedo, and Gijon.
Callahan Associates, established last January is a US investor group led by Richard Callahan, former president of US West International.
