    MediaOne & CableTel Deploying Tellabs' Gear
    Tellabs has announced that MediaOne is deploying its CableSpan 2300 telephony system in metro Boston and New Hampshire. In the Boston Area, MediaOne will offer services via Tellabs' system in Andover, North Andover, North Reading, Methuen, Dracut and Tewksbury. In New Hampshire, the towns include Manchester, Concord, Bow, Allenstown, Pembroke and Hooksett. Ultimately, one million households in New England will be passed by services poweblack by CableSpan.

    In Venezuela, CableTel has deployed Tellabs' system in Venezuela. CableTel has 10,000 video subs.

    ICM to Host Cable Telephony Event in Denver
    ICM is hosting a conference on cable telephony, covering both circuit-switched and IP issues, April 6-7 at the Hyatt in Denver. Reps from AT&T, Videotron, CableLabs, Cox and MediaOne are scheduled to speak. Nortel will hold a pre-conference workshop on April 5.

    MSOs and telecom providers can get in for $1995. The rest of you will have to pay $2395.

    Knology to Offer Telephony in Knoxville, TN
    Knology said that it plans to build a $75 million HFC network in Knoxville, Tennessee to offer voice, video and data services. The provider has approval from a Knox County committee. It is awaiting approval from other city and county legislators.

    Pennsylvania to Allow AT&T to Offer Local Services
    The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission has granted approval to AT&T to offer local cable telephony services in the state. Testing has been underway since August in Baldwin, South Park, Brentwood, Darmont, Jefferson and Whitehall. AT&T told the commission it would invest $300 million in infrastructure improvements in western Pennsylvania.

    Seren To Offer Services in San Francisco
    The California Public Utilities Commission will allow Seren to Offer local phone services in the East Bay area of San Francisco. Seren is in the process of filing apps with the state to provide long distance.

    RCN to Offer Services in Portland & New Jersey

    RCN has announced that it will provide its voice, video and data services to the city of Portland and 19 surrounding areas passing more than 430,000 homes. The provider has also said it will expand its Manhattan market to include Bayonne, Hoboken, Jersey City and Fairview, New Jersey. RCN already has local approval to offer services in Bayonne. RCN has licenses to pass 145,000 homes in the state.

    Cox Reports 100,000 Telephony Subs
    Cox has reported that it ended 1999 with 101,811 telephony subs from 1,150,367 homes passed, giving it a 8.9% take rate. Cox serves up 150,812 lines, which is 1.48 lines per customer.

    Cablevision Reports 8,900 Residential Subs
    Cablevision announced in its 1999 financial report that it had 8,900 residential telephony customers from 103,000 homes passed, which is a 8.6% penetration. The company reported to have 50,005 access lines in service from its commercial telephony operation.
