Adelphia Powerlink in the Toms River NJ
area has been horrible lately.
Just an update... DHCP still a problem... I have a DHCP lease that is
expiring momentarily, and
Adelphia's DHCP "server is unavailable" Once my lease expires, my
connection will not work.
I am told that Adelphia maintains a 'customer to available IP address'
ratio of 2:1 ...it would seem
that that either they do not know how to maintain their servers/network, or
the ratio is insufficient.
Which is it?
Adelphia management seems to be incapable of correcting the reoccuring
Powerlink DHCP outages in the
Toms River area.
It would seem that they have exceeded the capacity of their network,
servers, technical staff or all of
the above. The DHCP problems have been persistent.
If you are considering Adelphia Powerlink, take my advice, get DSL if it's
available... Adelphia
management has been innefective in correcting the problem (too technical
for them to understand?).
Regardless, it seems to me that Powerlink is less reliable than the old
PRODIGY Network that started all
this years ago...
So here we are again...
... and they're 'working on it'
So this is the status, which seems to never change. So, in my opinion,
this is
what it is like to have Adelphia Powerlink. It works when it works, and
when it does, count your
blessings.

For anyone following this, I just wanted to say that ADELPHIA's
Powerlink is STILL HAVING OUTAGES in the Toms River, NJ area.
Adelphia has been unsuccessful in correcting the problem.
They seem very unresponsive, and act as if they could care
less that they are selling a service that has these outages.
They just don't seem to know how to fix right... I have had
Powerlink for about two years now and this has been a consistent
problem for me. I have complained to supervisors, written to
Adelphia and yet the problem keeps reoccurring. The problem does
not only affect me, it also affects other users in the Toms
River area, this I have confirmed.
I have little confidence that they will correct it... yet they
keep marketing it ... it seems to me that they have oversold the
service and are either unwilling or unable to keep it functioning
reliably... I'd hate to have telephone service through them...
It might not be the actual technical people that are at fault, I
actually suspect that the problem is a result of deficiencies at
the management or executive level of Adelphia.
Regardless of the cause, the end result is that there are repeated
Powerlink OUTAGES, due to a faulty, failing or misconfigured DHCP
server.
If you have read the messages on this board, you will see the replies
from Jason. While he seems very nice, and good intentioned, I suspect
that he has been given his list of PRIORITY tasks and correcting
the POWERLINK OUTAGES (DUE TO DHCP) in Toms River must not be one.
I personally have spent countless hours on hold for their tech support,
calling when the server is not responding... it wouldn't be so bad
if when I called I was told that they were aware of it, but almost
every time I call I have to go through all the BS of explaining the
problem.
So here I sit, with a DHCP lease that expires soon, DHCP error messages
appearing on my screen, and Adelphia Tech Support's lousy Muzak playing on
speakerphone...
I have one suggestion for people considering getting Powerlink, keep your
dial-up ISP... if they maintain their other systems like they do the
one in Toms River NJ Area, you'll need it.
...If Bell Atlantic were to step their DSL plans for Ocean County, they
would probably make a killing by converting all the Powerlink customers
getting screwed by Adelphia Cable.
I wonder if Comcast know what they 'bargained for'?

* A complaint about Adelphia Cable's Powerlink Service *
Adelphia Powerlink in the Toms River NJ has had continuing problems with
"DHCP Server Unavailable" Errors for an extended period of time (months)
In fact when I was on phone with tech support, I was told that their
server
was in fact the problem (again). I am not surprised because this has
become
routine. Adelphia's support rep. even said that when he reads back through
my history that it is nothing but DHCP server errors... and in the last
two
years I have consistent problems on approx 50+ occations where the DHCP
server
was not responding and their network technicians had to correct the
problem at
their end.
I cannot help but think that Adelphia has not built their network to
handle the
capacity to match the capacity required by the number of users they
have sold
it to. I read that COMCAST will be acquiring Adelphia's accounts in the
Toms
River NJ area. I cannot help but think that Adelphia is not going to
maintain
their cable modem network to handle the capacity required.
One indication is the reoccuring DHCP server problems. Another
indication is
that the Adelphia Support Rep. today said that he would forward it to the
"Network Guys" and "...hopefully they would be able to perform a miracle."
...my response was "On Memorial Day?" to which he said, "They are
probably not
in today."
I guess this is an example of the 'fine' service we can expect.
Consider this an official complaint about the reoccuring DHCP server
problems in the
Toms River Area, an issue that has not been resolved, an issue which
leaves paying
customers without service.
Adelphia could give customers who call their tech support line a 'fixed
IP' temporarily
to
get the back online again, yet they refuse to do so... instead, I (and
other ADELPHIA
POWERLINK
customer in the Toms River area) spend countless hours on the phone
holding for tech
support,
going through the history and being told that they will "forward it to
the network guys"
and
that "They are probably not in today."
So here I am, same as always... My IP Lease is about to expire, I am
getting "DHCP
Server Unavailable" errors, and Adelphia seems to be doing nothing...
and if they do
something it seems to just bandaid the problem... because it keeps
coming back.

1 UN-Happy Adelphia Customer
