Design Technician

  • Determined the route for extending cable TV service to new homes, apartment buildings and
    commercial institutions, making it possible for Rogers to increase the number of subscribers.

  • Conducted field surveys to determine potential obstructions along the route reducing
    ultimate costs of laying cable and equipment.

  • Reviewed approved engineering drawings received from consulting engineers and applied this
    information to the preparation of new TV plant layouts, reducing potential damage to
    public utilities facilities.

  • Communicated with Bell Canada, hydro and utilities to coordinate proposed joint use route
    for the purpose of cable and equipment installation, making lines more readily accessible for
    future maintenance and service.

  • Use computer aid design programs to complete final designs of routes in new existing areas,
    prepared accurate and timely engineering drawings using AutoCAD to obtain
    Municipal Consents.

  • Determined appropriate type of cable and equipment to be installed along th route meeting
    company specifications and allowing for more accurate and cost-effective materials planing.

  • Determined the signal strength required for each subscriber home, taking appropriate action to
    ensure an acceptable level of service.

  • Estimated cots for labour, equipment and drop wires on individual projects keeping costs
    within the company's fiscal budget.

  • Submitted engineering drawings to City engineers, marked up to show proposed route, to
    obtain necessary permits to proceed with the installation of cable equipment.

  • Prepared joint use applications to obtain approval from Bell Canada and local hydro to use
    their structures for TV cable installations, providing Rogers with cost effective
    alternatives for laying cable in both new and existing areas.

  • Consulted frequently with construction personnel to monitor progress of plant construction,
    responding to any inquires or problems with the approved design plans.

  • Researched City's plans for future residential development projects and provided engineering
    manger with service estimates by subdivision, providing necessary information for
    incorporation into overall fiscal budgets.
