Im also currently completing the Austel endorsement for fibre optics. This covers all aspects of fibre optics including, fibre splicing.

Satellite installations, trouble shooting, repairs , upgrades and maintenance. -
I have learned all skills involved regarding satellite installations and technical knowledge due to the fact that I run my own small satellite company. This knowledge includes all aspects of satellite systems from Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB/IRD) to tracking satellite systems.

1994 Roads and Traffic Authorities-
Class MR licence-( medium rigid) Enables me to drive any vehicle up to 14 tone.

This involved :
  • Managing the finances of the company
  • Installing , trouble shooting, upgrading , maintaining all aspects of Satellite systems from homes
    to headends.
  • Having a large exposure to customers and meeting there needs on a regular basis.

    1995- mid 1995 Custom Call Communications
    Work here involved installing , trouble shooting and maintaining the following base station transmitters and receivers, cellular phones in cars and trucks, trunking radio networks , and all electronic equipment in Fire Trucks ( sirens, light bars, radios ,satellite navigation ,etc)

    1995- Current Optus Communications ( Optus Vision)
    Work at Optus involved and consists of the following:
  • Activation-
    I helped forward balance the whole of Sydney from start to end of the initial construction.
  • Gateway and Headend Certification-
    I have Proofed and Telephony certified a large percentage of gateways in Sydney .
  • Certifying Gateways and Headends involves-
    Cleaning fibres and connectors, balancing , forward and reverse sweeping of the Gateway,
    running proof of Performance tests with a spectrum analyzer, which involves adjusting
    forward levels within specifications, CNR and CTB tests. All aspects of fault finding within
    Gateways and Headends. Suggest modifications to any of this equipment .
  • Forward and Reverse ,Balance and Sweep-
    This work involves sweeping and balancing amplifiers , adjusting levels, finding and fixing faults
    for both the forward and reverse sweep paths.This involves recognizing certain types of
    faults and knowing the immediate fix for them.
  • Finding and Fixing ingress, CPDs and leakage
    I am able to find and fix all ingress , CPD ( Common Path Distortion) and leakage faults on the
    network. This involves recognizing, finding and fixing many types of different CPD and Ingress
    faults. My experience and knowledge assists me to its full extent when resolving these problems!
  • Resolving issues with faults-
    I have been actively involved in testing and modifying existing and new cable products on our
    Network. From Cable terminators, to Amplifiers, to new laser transmitters and receivers
    on the optical fibre.
  • Installation of (cable to 2 pair telephone line device) Cau's or ISU's-
    I have installed and tested many telephony Cau' or Isu's(These units Motorola/ ADC
    respectively convert 2 pair into digital cable signals) I also have a good knowledge of
    fault finding these products.
  • Power supplies-
    I can all routine maintenance and certify all powers supplies. This includes installing status
    monitoring equipment, such as Cheetah . As well as modifications to Alpha Inverter Cards.
    Of which they are up to Mod 6 now!
  • Maintenance-
    All previously mentioned skills in cable TV have been used to there maximum advantage on the
    network to perform on going maintenance.
  • Training-
    Being one of the first technical people employed in cable TV in Australia has given me many
    opportunities to train cable technicians . I still currently train many technicians who desire
    expand there knowledge. I am always consulted when other technicians require assistance or
    advice when problems need to be resolved.
