Season Four of How to Get Away with Murder Available on Netflix!

How to Get Away with Murder Season 4

The “Scoop”

How to Get Away with Murder is my guilty pleasure show that I cannot get enough of! The show follows Annalise Keating, an attorney and law professor at Philadelphia University. Keating is known for being a powerhouse, especially when it comes to defending her clients. She spearheads cases alongside Bonnie Winterbottom and Frank Delfino. Things take a twist in the show when five of her students join her team as interns, stirring up drama and murder… Annalise is very lenient with these students and tends to stick her neck out for them, even in times when she should not.

Relationships in this show are very peculiar as everyone lies and no one is truly honest. Annalise’s relationships with her two employees are beyond strange especially since one of them is in love with her husband… The other is a hired hand and a backstory that leaves me thirsty for more. She has a very unprofessional relationship with her interns that has led them to, well, murder. I have fallen in love with all of the main characters, but each one of them is guilty of something. You would think that they would learn to be honest with one another, but that has not changed at all from season one.

Some people have said that they are turned off by the show because it revolves around murder, but the show is so much more than a few stab wounds. Yes, there is murder, and there are probably a few more bodies to be discovered in future seasons, but the plot is solid yo. The murders were mostly accidental… Yeah, we’re going with that. It is not too gory, but instead, juicy with gossip and metaphorical backstabbing. If you love Scandal or Blindspot, I believe that you will be a HUGE fan of this show.

One thing I immensely appreciate about this show is the flashbacks. Every season the show focuses on a murder with flashbacks starting at the time of the death and going backward. The current timeline is moving forward, towards the day of the murder where the flashbacks finally start to make sense. Not to spoil too much… but within the first episode, you get a flashback to the first murder of the season. At this point, I was trapped and binge-watched the entire first three seasons in less than a week.

When the fourth season went on Netflix, I devoured those episodes in ONE. DAY. Oh, it’s delightful. I will say the flashbacks are different this season compared to the first three. In this season, there is only one flashback which takes place at the end of each episode. Since there was only one flashback per episode, there were fewer spoilers and more confusion about what actually happened. Now, the actual drama was SOLID. I loved this season and was emotionally torn at the many twists and turns that are in-store for viewers. Every time I start a new season, I start to wonder which of my favorite people will meet their end.

Why You Should Give It a Chance

Beyond the incredible storyline, the cast of How to Get Away with Murder is simply amazing! The star of the show, Annalise Keating, is played by the incredible Viola Davis. Viola Davis is the only person to date to win an Oscar, Emmy, and a Tony in an acting category. She was the first black actress to be nominated for three Academy Awards and win one. Viola Davis won the hearts of many, including I, when she played a lead role in The Help. Davis has proven again, and again, that she can put on a show-stopping performance. Add a little murder to the mixture and the results are pure addiction.

Bonnie Winterbottom is another character that I cannot keep my eyes off and the actress has played memorable characters in her past. Bonnie is played by the magnificent, charming, and memorable Liza Weil. Liza’s breakthrough role came in 2000 on Gilmore Girls where she played Paris Geller. Liza originally auditioned for the main role of Rory Gilmore, but the director did not think she was right fit for Rory. However, her personality was desired so much that they created the role of Paris specifically for her. She has starred on other shows such as Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, ER, and much more. Whenever I see Liza pop up on the screen, I immediately get excited because once a Gilmore, always a Gilmore.

Hope for More…

With the popularity of this show, I hope that more is to come, especially after everything that transpired in the fourth season. There is no confirmation of a fifth season, but boy am I holding out hope for more. The creator of the show, Pete Nowalk, was interviewed about a month ago and he is hoping for another season. With the large cliffhanger that occurred, he does not want to leave fans on edge. Hopefully, we will see at least one more season in the near future with the full cast lying their way through a police investigation. What can I say, I know what I like and am greedy for more!

If you have some time this weekend and are looking for a mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat; give it a try! From one advantageous viewer to another, I don’t think you will regret it!

I spend my day working with students and the nights I am curled up with a good book or show. I grew up watching Justice League with my grandmother and continue to be hooked on all superhero shows. I recently finished my M.Ed, and am currently enjoying catching up on all the action-packed shows I missed during the past two years.
