Movies to Watch Now & Later During Your Summer

wonder woman

Summer is upon us and now is the best time to grab some friends, stock up on some buttery popcorn, and watch a movie in the theatre. Movies have a way of causing you to borrow a director’s mind and see into another world. Movies can scare you, they can make you cry, make you laugh, and make you question reality.

For those who enjoy watching movies throughout the summer, here is a list of movies that you should watch throughout the summer.

In Theatres Now

These movies are currently in theatres and I think you should watch them in theatres.

Wonder Woman

Storyline (from IMDB): As IMDB describes the plot, “Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when a pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers and her true destiny.”

Why You Should Watch It: Rated an 8.2 out of 10 on IMDB, this movie has soared to the top of the box office. The movie is family friendly, great plot lines, and an amazing set of actors and actresses. The underlying themes are great and there is even some hilarious comments and scenes that will provide some comic relief for the audience.

Gross Sales (as of June 8, 2017): $147,822,503

Coming to Theatres Soon

These movies will be showing throughout the summer, some sooner than others. These movies are positioned to be highly reviewed and worth going to the theatre to watch them.

Baby Driver

Storyline (from IMDB): After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.

Why You Should Watch It: Lilly James, Kevin Spacey, and Jamie Foxx star in the thrill seeking film that is directed by Edgar Wright. Being released June 28, 2017, the movie already has a 8.5 out of 10 rating and Metacritic.com gave the film an 81 out of 100. Overall, this film will be the adventure packed film that will get your blood pumping.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Storyline (from IMDB): Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May, under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark, Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Why You Should Watch It: While it’s popularity is slowly declining, you should continue to keep your finger on the pulse of the film. Coming from Marvel Studios, this will be a continuation of the Captain America film that was released in 2016. Set to release July 6, 2017 Tom Holland, Chris Evans, and Martin Starr will (hopefully) stun the crowd.

City of Ghosts

Storyline (from IMDB): A documentary that follows the efforts of “Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently,” a handful of anonymous activists who banded together after their homeland was taken over by ISIS in 2014. With deeply personal access, this is the story of a brave group of citizen journalists as they face the realities of life undercover, on the run, and in exile, risking their lives to stand up against one of the greatest evils in the world today.

Why You Should Watch It: We tend to shy away from painful reality, hoping that it really is not true. However, the battle against ISIS is real and should be seen from people on the inside. Co-produced by Amazon Studios, this film has a high score of 92 out of 100 from Metacritic.com. Coming in the start of July.

War for the Planet of Apes

Storyline (from IMDB): Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Why You Should Watch It: Being released in the beginning of July, this film continues the series of Planet of Apes. I, personally, have been waiting for this movie to be released every since I saw the first Planet of Apes (the more recent rendition, not the older version). Directed by Matt Reeves, this film will have a great plot and incredible action-packed scenes.

Dunkirk

Storyline (from IMDB): Evacuation of Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire, Canada, and France, who were cut off and surrounded by the German army from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, between May 26- June 04, 1940, during Battle of France in World War II.

Why You Should Watch It: Coming July 21, Christopher Nolan is bound to impress audiences around the world. Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and Harry Styles (any One Direction fans?) star in this thriller that is sure to be a box office leader when released.

Whether you are a movie buff or just enjoy spending time with friends, these are the movies to keep an eye on when you are going into the summer. They are sure to be crowd pleasers and you should make sure to buy your movie ticket to each of these.
